Sparkle and Entel Bolivia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to develop the Bio-Oceanic Digital Corridor, a 4,370-kilometre terrestrial fibre route connecting Lima in Peru with São Paulo in Brazil through Bolivia. The project aims to provide an alternative to traditional submarine cable routes between the Pacific and Atlantic coasts, targeting latency below 60 milliseconds compared with delays exceeding 120 milliseconds on existing routes. The network is designed to support capacity of up to 60 terabits per second, serving cloud providers, data centres, internet service providers, gaming platforms and streaming companies. Entel Bolivia will contribute its existing fibre infrastructure, which spans more than 44,000 kilometres, while Sparkle will manage the Brazilian segment connecting the corridor to São Paulo. The partnership is expected to strengthen regional network resilience, improve digital services and support growing demand for AI, cloud computing and real-time applications across Latin America. Both companies will allow customers to access capacity through their respective networks, with commercial revenue-sharing arrangements to be finalised in a subsequent agreement.
