In Zambia, government officials and technology stakeholders have renewed calls to increase girls’ participation in artificial intelligence and digital innovation as part of broader efforts to close the gender gap in technology. The commitment was highlighted during the commemoration of International Girls in ICT Day 2026 under the theme “AI for Development: Girls Shaping the Future.” Officials emphasized that emerging technologies such as AI are transforming sectors including healthcare, agriculture, finance, and education, making inclusive participation increasingly important. They warned that women and girls remain underrepresented in ICT and engineering fields despite growing global demand for digital skills.
