The United Nations Assistant Secretary-General for Youth Affairs, Felipe Paullier, has called on Sierra Leonean students to take a leading role in shaping the country’s artificial intelligence (AI) and digital future, stressing that young people must move from being passive users of technology to active creators and innovators. Speaking during a high-level engagement at Central University, Paullier said AI is already reshaping education, entrepreneurship, and governance across the world, and Sierra Leone risks being left behind unless it invests urgently in digital skills, infrastructure, and innovation ecosystems. He emphasized that youth empowerment is central to national development, especially in countries with a large young population like Sierra Leone.
