Taiwan’s major convenience store chains, including 7-Eleven and FamilyMart, are rapidly integrating artificial intelligence to address rising labor costs and ongoing workforce shortages. Both companies are digitizing core operations ranging from inventory management to customer service, transforming AI from a support tool into a central part of their business models. FamilyMart has deployed an AI-driven fresh food ordering system that analyzes sales trends, weather patterns, and other data to reduce ordering time by more than 75% and cut food waste by over 10%. It has also introduced AIoT-based energy management across thousands of stores, lowering electricity use by around 10% while improving operational efficiency. Meanwhile, 7-Eleven is expanding AI-powered ordering systems and cashierless store formats that use image recognition and tracking technologies to enable automated shopping experiences. Both retailers are also using AI tools to assist employees with scheduling and store management, improving internal efficiency and reducing manual workload across nationwide operations.
