South Korea has approved a major public investment of approximately 560 billion won (about US$380 million) into the artificial intelligence company Upstage Co., marking a significant push to accelerate innovation in the country’s AI sector. The funding comes through the Korea National Growth Fund, a state-backed program designed to support emerging technologies such as AI, semiconductors, and biotechnology. Upstage, founded in 2020, is a fast-growing startup known for developing large language models and enterprise AI solutions. It is one of the few companies in the country to receive direct support from the national growth fund, highlighting its strategic importance in South Korea’s AI ecosystem.
