South Korea has unveiled a long term investment strategy worth more than $1 trillion to strengthen its leadership in artificial intelligence and semiconductor manufacturing. President Lee Jae Myung said the initiative is aimed at securing the country’s competitive position in the global AI race through major investments in chips, AI infrastructure, and data centres. As part of the plan, Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, along with their partners, will invest 800 trillion won (around $518 billion) to build new semiconductor fabrication facilities. The government has also announced additional funding for semiconductor packaging clusters and regional development projects. The strategy includes large scale AI data centre investments supported by SK Group, GS Group, and Naver. By 2035, South Korea plans to expand its AI computing capacity through a nationwide data centre network backed by investments exceeding 1,000 trillion won. The initiative is expected to boost innovation, strengthen the country’s technology ecosystem, and reinforce its position as a global leader in AI and advanced semiconductor production.
