OpenAI is expanding advertising on ChatGPT to 26 additional countries, including Pakistan, bringing the total number of markets where ads are available to 89. The company announced the expansion as it works to grow advertising revenue ahead of a potential public listing. OpenAI said its advertising business had reached an annualised revenue run rate of $1 billion in August. More than 100,000 advertisers have run campaigns on the platform since advertising tests began in the United States earlier this year. The latest expansion covers markets across Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia. Newly included countries include Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nigeria, South Africa, Serbia, Ukraine and Cambodia, alongside several Latin American markets. Advertisers can access the new markets through technology partners or use the company’s self-service advertising platform. OpenAI has also introduced artificial intelligence tools for advertisers and begun testing sponsored agents with selected advertisers in the United States. Advertisements will appear only for users on ChatGPT’s Free and Go plans. Plus, Pro and Enterprise subscriptions will remain free of advertising, according to the company. The expansion gives advertisers access to additional markets while broadening OpenAI’s efforts to generate revenue from its artificial intelligence services.
