Morocco Warns AI Could Displace 1.3 Million Jobs by 2030 Without Urgent Skills Reform

A new report from the African Center for Strategic Studies and Digitalization warns that artificial intelligence and automation could displace more than 1.3 million jobs in Morocco by 2030 if urgent action is not taken. The study estimates that around 1.5 million jobs face direct automation risk, while another 3.1 million roles will be significantly transformed, requiring major reskilling. At the same time, Morocco is expected to generate only about 180,000 new digital jobs, creating a substantial employment gap. A key concern highlighted is the mismatch between workforce skills and economic needs, with the country producing roughly 22,000 digital graduates annually compared to the hundreds of thousands needed each year to adapt to AI-driven changes. The report also notes that Morocco’s large informal economy makes workers especially vulnerable to displacement. It recommends a coordinated national response focused on education reform, targeted AI training programs, and developing domestic AI capabilities under an “AI Made in Morocco” approach. The findings reinforce concerns around the country’s broader digital transformation plans, including Maroc IA 2030.
