Malawi has called for the swift implementation of the One Africa Network during the Connected Africa Summit 2026 held in Nairobi, urging African leaders to move beyond policy discussions toward practical execution of continental digital integration. The appeal was made by ICT Minister Dr. Shadric Namalomba in meetings with regional counterparts and Kenyan President William Ruto, where discussions centered on strengthening Africa’s digital economy through improved connectivity, harmonized regulations, and reduced cross-border data barriers. Malawi stressed that high roaming and data costs continue to hinder seamless communication across African nations, making urgent action necessary to establish clear timelines for rollout. The country also highlighted its broader digital transformation agenda, including expanding last-mile connectivity, improving internet affordability, and supporting digital skills development. Regional partners showcased ongoing infrastructure projects such as fibre optic expansion and innovation hubs, which Malawi views as models for its own strategy. The summit also explored cooperation in digital trade, AI development, and digital identity systems to support deeper regional integration.
