Global information group RELX Group, owner of LexisNexis, has announced plans to acquire French legal AI company Doctrine in a move aimed at strengthening its position in Europe’s legal technology market. Founded in 2016 in Paris, Doctrine provides AI-powered legal research, drafting, and analytics tools built on a large database of case law, legislation, and regulatory content across multiple European jurisdictions. The platform is widely used by legal professionals, including law firms, corporations, and public institutions. RELX said the acquisition would enable more integrated AI-driven legal workflows across research and document drafting, improving productivity and access to authoritative legal information. Doctrine will continue operating under its existing leadership after the transaction is completed, subject to regulatory approvals. Industry observers see the deal as part of a broader consolidation trend in legal AI, where companies compete to secure high-quality, structured legal datasets seen as a key advantage in building reliable artificial intelligence systems for professional use.
