In Nigeria, academics are urging stronger adoption of artificial intelligence as a practical tool for addressing long-standing socio-economic and security challenges. At a recent national conference on AI and development, Prof. Iliyasu Yusuf called on government and stakeholders to integrate AI into key sectors such as security, education, healthcare, agriculture, and environmental management. He described AI as a core technology of the Fourth Industrial Revolution with the potential to improve productivity, reduce poverty, and strengthen national competitiveness. In the security sector, he highlighted how AI-powered predictive analytics could support intelligence gathering, identify crime patterns, and enable more proactive responses to threats such as banditry and cybercrime.
