Kyrgyzstan is rolling out an AI-supported smart surveillance system aimed at improving road safety and reducing traffic accidents, particularly near schools. The initiative was discussed during a meeting between President Sadyr Zhaparov and residents of the Nokat district in the Osh region. Residents raised concerns about speeding vehicles and recent accidents involving students near school zones. In response, the government highlighted ongoing efforts to expand the national video surveillance network as part of a broader public safety strategy. Authorities plan to install up to 20,000 surveillance cameras across the country. Around 5,000 to 6,000 cameras have already been deployed, with approximately 3,000 currently operational. An additional 3,000 units are being procured and are expected to be installed within the next six weeks. Officials say the system will use AI-assisted monitoring to enhance enforcement and improve response times, with the long-term goal of making roads and urban areas safer. The project reflects a growing regional trend of using AI-based surveillance technologies for governance and public safety management.
