Kenya is positioning itself as a leading hub for artificial intelligence investment in Africa through a coordinated national strategy focused on innovation, infrastructure, and talent development. At the Kenya International Investment Conference 2026 in Nairobi, government officials and private sector leaders outlined a full-stack AI ecosystem strategy covering compute infrastructure, data systems, research, applications, governance, and skills development. The country’s strong renewable energy grid is seen as a major advantage for powering AI data centres and large-scale computing systems. Investors have already signaled interest in funding AI infrastructure projects worth hundreds of millions of dollars, including hyperscaler deployments and specialized AI “factories.” Kenya is also promoting agile regulation through innovation-friendly sandboxes, aiming to balance oversight with rapid experimentation. Alongside infrastructure, emphasis is being placed on training local talent, engaging diaspora experts, and expanding access to AI tools. The goal is to transform Kenya from an AI consumer into a regional leader in AI creation and investment.
