Kazakhstan is advancing a practical and investment-driven approach to artificial intelligence through a high-level roundtable held in Astana on 3 April 2026. The meeting brought together government officials, international investors, and major global companies, including Microsoft, the EBRD, VEON, ERG, Wabtec, Baker Hughes, EY, and KPMG, under the support of the Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development and the Foreign Investors’ Council. The discussions focused on turning AI from a conceptual priority into real economic impact. Key priorities included building a national AI ecosystem, strengthening data infrastructure, and developing a clear regulatory framework to support innovation while ensuring digital sovereignty. Participants emphasized the importance of secure cloud systems and national control over data as central to long-term development. Practical applications were highlighted, including AI in industrial monitoring, procurement automation, and heavy industry optimization. A major infrastructure proposal, the “Data Center Valley” in Ekibastuz, was also presented as a foundation for regional digital growth.
