Indonesia’s Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Stella Christie, has called on young people to strengthen critical thinking skills as artificial intelligence increasingly reshapes education, work, and global competition. She emphasized that while AI can generate answers and automate tasks, the uniquely human ability to evaluate accuracy, relevance, and ethical use of information remains irreplaceable. Highlighting Indonesia’s large digital population, she argued that the country can play a meaningful role in shaping global AI development through a “human-in-the-loop” approach, where humans remain central in decision-making processes. The government is also expanding initiatives to improve educational quality and international competitiveness, including programs that support student placement in top global universities.
