Ghana’s ability to benefit from artificial intelligence will depend more on infrastructure development than policy ambition, according to discussions ahead of a high-level meeting in Accra involving policymakers, regulators, and technology companies. The session, convened by industry stakeholders including Vertiv and Africa Hyperscalers, focuses on building the foundations needed to support AI workloads at scale. Experts note that while adoption of AI is already growing across sectors such as finance, telecommunications, and public services, Ghana faces constraints in power reliability, data centre capacity, and high-performance computing infrastructure. These limitations often result in sensitive digital workloads being processed outside the country, reducing local economic value and control over data systems.
