Djibouti has begun developing a national artificial intelligence strategy aimed at guiding the country’s digital future with support from the United Nations system. The initiative, led by the Ministry of Digital Economy and Innovation, includes a broad consultation process involving government institutions, international partners, private sector actors, youth representatives, and civil society. The goal is to create a structured framework for responsible, ethical, and inclusive use of AI while strengthening digital sovereignty. Key priorities identified during workshops include building local technical skills, improving digital infrastructure, enhancing data governance, and integrating AI into public policy. Officials also emphasized the importance of reducing digital inequality and improving youth employment opportunities through technology-driven growth.
