The Czech Republic is falling behind many advanced economies in the adoption of artificial intelligence in the workplace, with only about 28% of employees using AI tools on the job, compared to nearly 60% in leading countries. According to the Microsoft AI Diffusion Report, this gap highlights uneven integration of AI across European labor markets, particularly in public administration and corporate environments. While AI usage is gradually increasing, a significant portion of employees reportedly use these tools without official employer approval, a practice known as “shadow IT,” which raises concerns about data security and potential information leaks. In response, the Czech government and private partners have launched the AI National Skilling Plan, aiming to improve digital literacy and promote safe, compliant AI use across workplaces. The initiative involves collaboration between Microsoft, government institutions, labor offices, and industry associations, focusing on training workers to use AI effectively while adhering to regulatory standards. Despite these efforts, experts warn that without faster adoption and structured training, the country risks widening its digital skills gap compared to more AI-advanced economies.
