Burundi has taken an important step in its digital transformation by validating its National Artificial Intelligence Strategy for 2026–2030 during a workshop held in Bujumbura. The framework aims to integrate AI into public governance, economic development, and service delivery to improve efficiency and national productivity. According to officials, including Francine Inarukundo, the strategy focuses on practical applications of technology to strengthen institutions, enhance production systems, and improve services for citizens. Rather than treating AI as a purely technological shift, the initiative positions it as a core development tool aligned with broader economic reforms. It also supports Burundi’s macroeconomic stabilization efforts by promoting digital solutions that can modernize key sectors. Through this coordinated approach, the country seeks to ensure that artificial intelligence contributes directly to long-term economic transformation and improved public sector performance.
