Top AI Firms Agree to Voluntary Oversight Framework at White House

President Donald Trump said leading artificial intelligence companies have signed a voluntary accord aimed at strengthening internal oversight of AI development through company controls, independent reviews and board-level monitoring. The agreement was announced following a White House meeting involving senior technology executives. Signatories named in reports included Anthropic Chief Executive Officer Dario Amodei, Google Chief Executive Officer Sundar Pichai, Meta Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg, OpenAI President Greg Brockman, Nvidia Chief Executive Officer Jensen Huang and xAI founder Elon Musk. Under the accord, participating companies would establish internal controls, work with independent external auditors and create board committees to assess findings from internal and external reviews. The document also leaves open the possibility that some of these measures could eventually be incorporated into laws or regulations. The announcement comes as governments, technology companies and researchers debate how to manage risks associated with increasingly capable artificial intelligence systems. Anthropic’s Dario Amodei acknowledged that the technology carries significant risks, while other experts questioned whether voluntary industry oversight would provide sufficient safeguards. The agreement is voluntary rather than a federal regulatory framework. Trump has also emphasized continued AI development and said the United States should maintain its position in the global technology race. The White House meeting additionally focused on data-center investment, infrastructure and concerns raised by communities hosting large AI facilities.
