Surveyors in Fiji are increasingly adopting artificial intelligence as part of efforts to modernise land development and improve national planning. At a World Surveyors Day event hosted by the Fiji Institute of Surveyors Council, professionals and students explored how AI is reshaping the field under the theme “Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Surveying.” Council President Kesha Sharma said AI is transforming how surveyors process and interpret geospatial data, enabling faster and more accurate decision-making. She noted that when combined with geospatial technologies, AI can significantly improve disaster preparedness, particularly in analysing terrain and satellite imagery after events such as cyclones or flooding.
