Zambia is among the countries identified as having emerging but still limited artificial-intelligence readiness according to a comparative analysis of AI development across sub-Saharan Africa. The study examines how factors such as internet connectivity, technical education, research infrastructure and public policy shape the ability of countries to adopt machine-learning technologies. While Zambia has growing digital infrastructure and a developing university system, researchers say the country still faces challenges related to computing resources and advanced technical training. The research highlights how uneven AI development remains across the continent, with only a handful of economies currently possessing the infrastructure required for large-scale machine-learning deployment. Analysts say closing these gaps will require investments in education, cross-border research collaboration and stronger partnerships between universities and industry. The findings illustrate the broader challenge facing many African countries as they attempt to participate in the global AI economy while still building foundational digital capabilities.
