Oman Builds AI-Driven Space Economy with Satellite Launches and $200M Investments

Oman is rapidly advancing its space economy by integrating artificial intelligence, satellite technology, and sovereign connectivity projects under its Vision 2040 strategy. The country is preparing to launch an AI-powered Earth observation satellite in 2026, capable of performing advanced onboard processing for applications such as agriculture monitoring, urban planning, and disaster response. Alongside this, a $200 million investment in a sovereign MicroGEO communications satellite aims to strengthen national connectivity and reduce reliance on external infrastructure providers. Oman is also developing a national CubeSat programme to train students and engineers in satellite design, manufacturing, and operations, building long-term technical capacity. Around 25 space startups are already active in the country, working on geospatial analytics, climate intelligence, and AI-driven data services. These initiatives align with broader efforts to diversify the economy beyond oil and gas while building a knowledge-based digital future. By combining AI, space technology, and education, Oman is positioning itself as an emerging regional hub for advanced space innovation and commercial satellite services.
