Google Maps Adds Fuel Prices to Help UK Drivers Find Cheaper Petrol

Google Maps is adding petrol and diesel prices to its UK listings, giving motorists a new way to compare fuel costs while searching for nearby forecourts. The feature uses information from the government’s Fuel Finder scheme, with prices displayed alongside participating petrol stations. UK forecourts are legally required to submit updated prices to Fuel Finder within 30 minutes of making a change. The update comes as fuel costs remain elevated, with the average 55-litre diesel tank costing around £110 and the equivalent petrol tank costing about £96, according to the AA. Google Maps is widely used for navigation in Britain, with Ofcom estimating that 77% of adults use the service. Google Maps and Waze product partnerships director Sarah-Jayne Williams said the company would independently assess pricing information and display prices only when it has sufficient confidence that the data is current.
