Google Introduces Gemini 4 Argon With 1 Million Token Capacity

Google has announced Gemini 4 Argon, a new frontier artificial intelligence model designed to handle complex, long-running workflows across software engineering, enterprise work and cybersecurity. The model is initially being made available to selected cyber defenders through Google’s Fairwind Program as the company takes a phased approach to broader access. Gemini 4 Argon is already being used in internal Google workflows, where teams have applied it to specialized coding, research and engineering tasks. Google said the model helped quantum computing researchers improve the efficiency of certain algorithms, while another team used Argon agents to identify memory optimizations across data centers that could free more than 300 TiB of memory. The model is also being used for large-scale software migrations, including efforts to move C and C++ codebases to Rust. In one example involving libgav1, Argon agents replaced 32,000 lines of SIMD code and produced a Rust implementation that Google said runs 2.7 times faster than the existing Rust port while maintaining identical video output. Google has expanded Argon’s output capacity to 1 million tokens, compared with 64,000 tokens for its previous model. The company said this allows the system to work through substantially longer reasoning and generate large amounts of content within a single workflow. Before wider availability, Google is strengthening safeguards against misuse, prompt injection and potential model misalignment. The company said Argon is being tested through automated and human-led red teaming, while monitoring systems are being used to identify potentially harmful behavior. Google plans to gradually expand access to developers, businesses and consumers.
