The Government of The Gambia has launched a National Misinformation and Disinformation Response Centre, an AI-powered platform designed to detect and respond to false or misleading information circulating online. The initiative, supported by ECOWAS and established under the Ministry of Information, is described as the first of its kind in West Africa. The centre uses artificial intelligence tools to monitor digital content, verify claims, and flag potentially false narratives across social and mainstream media platforms. Officials say the system is intended to strengthen public trust in information while avoiding censorship, focusing instead on transparency and verification.
