Ethiopia is preparing to launch a major artificial intelligence-focused university in 2027, which officials say will be only the second institution of its kind in the world. Announced by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, the project is already under construction and is expected to specialize in advanced fields such as machine learning, robotics, and data science. The planned university is intended to strengthen national capacity in technology and support Ethiopia’s broader strategy of positioning innovation as a key driver of economic growth. It will also adopt a pan-African approach by offering scholarships to students from across the continent and incorporating expertise from both international partners and the Ethiopian diaspora.
