Egypt has emerged as Africa’s most AI-ready country according to the latest Government AI Readiness Index compiled by Oxford Insights. The ranking evaluates nearly two hundred countries globally based on factors such as digital infrastructure, innovation capacity, government strategy and availability of technical talent. Egypt ranked first in Africa and 51st globally, ahead of other regional technology ecosystems including Kenya, South Africa and Nigeria. Analysts attribute Egypt’s position to sustained government investment in digital infrastructure, growing university programs in artificial intelligence and a rapidly expanding startup ecosystem. Egyptian policymakers have positioned AI as a key component of the country’s broader digital transformation strategy, linking artificial intelligence development to sectors such as smart cities, transportation management and public-service modernization. The ranking highlights how digital infrastructure, government policy and education investment are shaping the continent’s emerging AI landscape.
