AMD has announced a major partnership with artificial intelligence company Anthropic that includes supplying up to two gigawatts of its Instinct MI450 Series GPUs and investing up to $5 billion in the startup. The agreement is expected to generate tens of billions of dollars in GPU sales over time, making it one of the largest AI infrastructure deals for the chipmaker. Under the partnership, Anthropic will deploy AMD’s MI450 Series GPUs through the company’s Helios rack scale solutions to power its Claude family of AI models. The first gigawatt of computing capacity is scheduled to become operational during the first half of 2027, with the remaining deployment planned in later phases. AMD’s equity investment will be released in stages based on deployment milestones. The collaboration strengthens AMD’s position in the rapidly growing AI accelerator market while giving Anthropic greater supply chain flexibility. If the rollout progresses as planned, the agreement could significantly expand AMD’s data center business and support the growing demand for AI computing infrastructure worldwide.
