Samsung Electronics has emerged as the world’s largest investor among the top 10 global semiconductor companies after committing nearly 90 trillion won, equivalent to about 59.2 billion US dollars, in capital expenditure and research and development during 2025, according to industry data. The figures, compiled by corporate tracker CEO Score and reported by Yonhap, show that the South Korean tech giant allocated 89.9 trillion won in total investment, including 52.2 trillion won in capital spending and 37.7 trillion won dedicated to research and development. This level of investment placed Samsung well ahead of its global peers, with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company ranking second after spending 69.4 trillion won in the same period. The company maintained aggressive spending even during a semiconductor industry downturn in 2023, when its operating profit dropped by 84.9 percent year on year to 6.57 trillion won, yet investment still reached 88.9 trillion won. Industry analysts note that this sustained capital strategy has supported the broader semiconductor recovery cycle that gained momentum in the following year.
