In Mozambique, election stakeholders are increasingly exploring the role of artificial intelligence in improving electoral administration and democratic processes. AI tools are being considered to enhance voter registration systems, streamline election logistics, and improve communication with citizens. These innovations are expected to increase efficiency, reduce administrative burdens, and make electoral services more accessible to the public. At the same time, officials and institutional partners are raising important concerns about the risks associated with AI adoption. Key issues include data privacy, cybersecurity threats, transparency, and the need for strong institutional accountability. To address these challenges, a UNDP-supported technical session brought together representatives from the electoral commission, judiciary, and police to discuss responsible and ethical use of AI in elections.
