The Government of Lesotho is stepping up efforts to boost digital innovation and expand its participation in global technology and artificial intelligence initiatives, according to the Ministry of Information, Communication, Science, Technology and Innovation. Speaking at the Young Innovation Forum alongside Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation engagements, Principal Secretary Kanono Ramashamole highlighted the importance of community-driven innovation and youth participation in shaping the country’s digital future. He announced that Lesotho plans to field national teams for international AI and innovation platforms, including forums organised by the International Telecommunication Union, to enable local innovators to compete and collaborate globally. In addition, the Ministry has been instructed to begin developing a Digital Innovation Policy aimed at providing a structured framework for supporting startups, guiding technological development, and strengthening the country’s digital economy. The initiative reflects Lesotho’s broader ambition to position itself as an active participant in the global digital and AI landscape while ensuring that policy outcomes translate into practical economic and social benefits.
