UK government has announced support for Ineffable Intelligence, a frontier AI startup building self-learning systems capable of generating new knowledge, through its Sovereign AI initiative in partnership with the British Business Bank. The Department for Science, Innovation and Technology said the investment aims to scale homegrown AI capacity and strengthen national competitiveness. Founded by AI researcher David Silver, formerly of Google DeepMind, the company is developing reinforcement learning systems that interact with environments to discover novel solutions in science, medicine, and engineering. Ministers including Kanishka Narayan and Liz Kendall described the project as part of a broader strategy to ensure the UK becomes an AI maker rather than just a user. Officials said the funding will help the company expand its research team and access national supercomputing resources, alongside other startups supported under the Sovereign AI programme, reinforcing the UK’s ambition to lead in frontier artificial intelligence development in Europe and beyond.
