German software company SAP has agreed to acquire Freiburg-based AI startup Prior Labs in a move aimed at strengthening its enterprise artificial intelligence capabilities. Prior Labs specializes in “tabular foundation models,” AI systems designed to analyze structured business data such as spreadsheets and databases, an area increasingly seen as critical for enterprise automation and decision-making. The startup, founded in 2024, raised €9 million in early funding and is now set to receive more than €1 billion in investment from SAP over the next four years to support global scaling, while continuing to operate independently.
