Armenia is investing heavily in a large-scale artificial intelligence data center in Hrazdan, marking a major step toward joining the global AI infrastructure race. The facility will host thousands of advanced AI chips to support cloud computing, model training, and large-scale AI services, with most capacity intended for international clients while a portion is reserved for domestic use. Officials see the project as a turning point for Armenia’s economy, shifting it from small-scale IT services toward high-performance computing infrastructure. However, challenges remain, including uncertain chip delivery timelines, energy demands, and a shortage of skilled AI professionals. Experts note that without significant investment in education and talent retention, the country may struggle to fully capitalize on the facility. Despite these concerns, the project is expected to form the foundation of a broader AI ecosystem and strengthen Armenia’s position in the global technology landscape.
