Egypt is advancing a major urban development initiative, The Spine, a USD 27 billion smart city project led by Talaat Moustafa Group in partnership with the National Bank of Egypt. Designed as a next-generation mixed-use city, the project will integrate residential, commercial, and hospitality spaces with advanced artificial intelligence systems from the ground up. It is being developed as a fully digital-physical environment powered by digital twin technology, real-time data analytics, and edge computing infrastructure. The city will use AI systems to manage traffic, energy distribution, infrastructure maintenance, and emergency response through predictive modelling and automated decision-making. A distributed network of data centres and micro-edge nodes will process real-time information locally, enabling faster and more efficient operations while maintaining data privacy. The system will also include energy optimization tools, smart microgrids, and AI-driven urban planning to improve sustainability and resource management.
