The initiative is linked to the country’s “Maldives 2.0” digital transformation program, which aims to build a more inclusive digital economy by reducing barriers for women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields. Officials stressed that involving girls in AI development is essential not only for equality but also for reducing bias in emerging technologies. The government is also promoting international cooperation to expand opportunities in robotics, programming, and AI innovation. Alongside state efforts, public figures including the First Lady have called for more inclusive spaces in technology, encouraging young women to move from being users of digital tools to becoming creators and innovators in the field.
