Kakao Mobility is accelerating its push into advanced autonomous driving by outlining a roadmap for Level 4 self-driving technology as part of its broader physical AI strategy. The company aims to develop the system in-house, focusing on three core areas: machine learning models for perception and decision-making, redundant vehicle systems for safety, and hybrid validation tools combining simulations with real-world driving data. Level 4 autonomy allows vehicles to operate independently within defined service zones without human intervention, such as designated urban taxi areas. Kakao Mobility also plans to enhance safety through real-time 3D visualization tools, anomaly detection systems using AI, and a centralized 24-hour monitoring center. In addition, the company is promoting an open ecosystem by sharing datasets, HD maps, and platform APIs with industry partners to support wider innovation. Early pilot services in Seoul’s Gangnam district already demonstrate growing adoption of autonomous mobility services.
