The founders of AI coding startup Cursor, operated by Anysphere, have become billionaires following a major $2.3 billion funding round that valued the company at $29.3 billion. According to estimates, each of the four cofounders holds around a 4.5% stake in the company, making their individual net worths exceed $1.3 billion. Cursor is an AI-powered code editor widely used by software developers and enterprise teams at companies such as Nvidia, Adobe, Uber, Shopify, and PayPal. The platform allows engineers to use leading AI models to write, debug, and manage code more efficiently, and recently introduced its own in-house model to reduce reliance on external providers. Founded in 2022 by MIT classmates Michael Truell, Aman Sanger, Sualeh Asif, and Arvid Lunnemark, the startup has grown rapidly, reaching over $1 billion in annualized revenue. One cofounder has since left to pursue research in safer AI systems. The company’s rapid rise highlights the accelerating growth and extreme valuations in the AI sector, where young founders are increasingly reaching billionaire status in a short time.
