East Africa is preparing to host a major artificial intelligence conference in Kigali, Rwanda, bringing together policymakers, researchers, and industry leaders to advance the region’s digital transformation agenda. The 4th East African Community Regional Science, Technology and Innovation Conference will take place from March 30 to April 1, 2026, at the Kigali Convention Centre under the theme focused on building a resilient, inclusive, and innovative AI-driven East Africa. The event is expected to attract over 680 delegates, including government ministers, development partners, academics, and private sector representatives from across member states. Key discussions will cover AI applications in agriculture, healthcare, education, climate resilience, and the digital economy, alongside debates on ethics, governance, and regional cooperation. A ministerial dialogue is expected to produce the Kigali Declaration on AI for East Africa, aiming to strengthen coordination and accelerate responsible AI adoption across the region.
