French AI company Mistral has secured $830 million in financing to build a major data centre near Paris, marking a significant step in Europe’s push for sovereign AI infrastructure. The facility, located at Bruyères-le-Châtel, is expected to become operational in 2026 and will house around 14,000 Nvidia GB300 GPUs, positioning it as a key computing hub for advanced AI development in Europe. The project reflects growing demand from governments, enterprises, and research institutions for locally controlled AI systems rather than reliance on US-based hyperscalers. Mistral’s strategy focuses on building end-to-end AI capability, including infrastructure, model development, and customised solutions for clients across sectors such as manufacturing and semiconductors.
