In the country’s 2026 State of the Nation Address, President Cyril Ramaphosa highlighted initiatives involving digital infrastructure expansion, data-center investment and AI applications in sectors such as law enforcement and economic regulation. The government believes AI systems can help improve efficiency across public services while supporting economic growth in technology industries. South Africa already hosts several of Africa’s largest data centers and technology companies, making it one of the continent’s most advanced digital economies. Analysts say expanding AI infrastructure could strengthen the country’s role as a regional technology hub.
