Commentary analyzing global AI geopolitics warns that many Latin American countries risk becoming dependent on technologies developed in larger technology ecosystems such as the United States and China. Without strong domestic AI research capabilities and computing infrastructure, emerging economies may struggle to build competitive technology industries of their own. Analysts argue that governments must invest more heavily in digital infrastructure, research institutions and education systems to ensure they remain active participants in the global AI economy. Otherwise, Latin America could become primarily a consumer of imported AI platforms rather than a center of technological innovation. Policymakers are increasingly aware of this risk as artificial intelligence becomes central to economic development strategies worldwide.
