AI Health Initiative Targets Thousands of Clinics Across Africa

A major new initiative backed by the Gates Foundation and OpenAI aims to deploy artificial intelligence tools across hundreds of healthcare facilities in Africa. The program is designed to address the severe shortage of healthcare workers in many countries by using AI systems to assist with diagnostics and clinical decision-making. The initiative will begin in Rwanda but is expected to expand to roughly one thousand clinics across the continent. Developers believe AI systems could help clinicians analyze patient symptoms, medical records and treatment guidelines more efficiently. Supporters argue that the technology could significantly improve healthcare delivery in regions where doctors and specialists are scarce.
