Gates also suggested a “token tax” that would make replacing employees with artificial intelligence more costly for companies while generating funds to support workers affected by job losses. He believes governments should establish institutions to manage the transition and reconsider tax policies that encourage workforce replacement. Gates expects artificial intelligence to disrupt employment faster than previous technological changes, particularly affecting entry and mid-level roles. He said governments, businesses and communities need to act now to ensure the benefits of artificial intelligence are distributed more broadly.
