In Nigeria, a new smart infrastructure initiative is integrating artificial intelligence with renewable energy through the deployment of 50,000 solar-powered streetlights that double as distributed AI data nodes. The project, developed in partnership with a UK-based greentech firm, aims to modernize urban infrastructure while expanding digital connectivity. Each smart streetlight is equipped with edge computing capabilities, enabling it to process data locally while also supporting public WiFi, communication services, and optional AI-enabled monitoring systems. The system is designed to operate fully on solar power, reducing dependence on traditional grid infrastructure and supporting sustainability goals.
