In Nigeria, government officials are calling for stronger continental collaboration to develop artificial intelligence infrastructure and reduce dependence on foreign technology platforms. The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has emphasized the need for Africa to invest in shared digital systems, particularly in cloud computing and data centre capacity. Speaking at a technology forum, NITDA Director-General Kashifu Abdullahi highlighted the significant gap between Africa’s population size and its global share of computing power. He warned that without coordinated investment, the continent risks missing another major technological revolution driven by AI and cloud technologies.
