AI chatbots are increasingly being used by voters for political information, but a BBC investigation has found they can provide inaccurate or misleading election advice. Tests conducted ahead of the Senedd election showed that popular tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, Meta AI, Claude, and Grok sometimes gave incorrect details about candidates, constituencies, and party policies. In some cases, the chatbots offered incomplete or outdated information, including wrong candidate lists and misrepresented political positions. While they were often able to explain voting systems correctly and provide general policy summaries, the accuracy of specific electoral advice varied significantly between platforms.
